A few helpful tips
- STEAMLINE TASKS – combine your errands, food preparation, bill paying etc. The reason to streamline tasks is so you can be more organized and efficient.
- RECRUIT HELP – when you need help, ask for it. Ask a trusted friend, family, or neighbor. If your budget allows, hire some help.
- PLAN AHEAD – prepare Tuesday’s work on Monday, make two dinners at a time, pack book bags, make lunches etc. do this the night before.
- DOWN TIME – use your downtime to your advantage. Fill your gas tank (if you can), do the laundry, pickup the dry cleaning. This way you can have more free time for YOU.
- BUDGET – start a budget and stick to it whenever possible. Budgeting is a critical tool that EVERY single mom needs in her single mom toolbox.
- SUPPORT SYSTEM – if you have a support system in place you are fortunate, if you do not build one. Start this process by drafting a list of what you need help with. Once you have defined what is required, you will have a better idea of what resources to gather. Remember to:
- Ask for help (it takes a village)
- Become support to another single mom (then you can barter)
- Work with big brother/big sister (or similar program)
- SELF CARE – this is the most important of ALL the tips. Yet, self-care is often overlooked. It is critical to being successful and especially in your role as a single parent. You must look after yourself so you can take care of your children. If you don’t have time, schedule it. Self-care looks different for everyone.
