Who’s behind the MIC?

Ms. Yasmin Thomas has a proven ability to foster relationships across generations. This ability is part of the incentive and what inspired her to develop " XSM - (X) and The Single Mom podcast ".

Yasmin became a single parent for the second time, after a crushing divorce. Her co-parent experience/journey alone is worthy of sharing.  However, there is so much more to share.

Yasmin put her dreams of earning a degree on hold to focus on raising her two sons while working six days per week.

Yasmin pursued her goal to attend college after raising two sons, earning dual master's degrees, a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Arts in Education Technology and Human Development (MA).

A bit more about Yasmin is her heart-felt concern regarding the plight of single moms and their experience navigating through the many complexities associated with single motherhood.

Message: sharing a few evocations that can help you be successful in juggling single parenthood.

  • Determination – thrive to be the best mother you can be, not the best, your best.
  • Dedication – commit to always aiming higher, motherhood is a gift.
  • Strong Work Ethics – work in a focus consistent way with grit and purpose.
  • Manage Your Time - time management is a critical component for managing a productive life.
  • Be Fearless – this speaks for itself.
  • Always Lead With Love – our world could use more sincere love.

Our societal views on the dynamics of single motherhood have changed.

According to a recent study, 57% of millennial mothers are single moms, 15 million women contribute significantly to our economy.  When you stop to consider the magnitude of their combined buying, power it’s impressive.

When bonded together, single mothers are an economic powerhouse. This demographic will continue to be a major contributor to our country and society well into the foreseeable future. Although these facts indicate the potential for prosperity, individually single mothers often struggle and are at an economic disadvantage.

Children growing up in single-parent families typically do not have the same resources available as those growing up in dual-parent households. This can manifest in a variety of outcomes including teenage pregnancy, limited access to education, which often results in lower-paying jobs, and limited career opportunities.  Unfortunately, this is the reality that derives from these lifestyle choices.

What is required is; stronger support systems, excess to resources that will help combat negative outcomes, and other essential social programs.

XSM movement is prepared to take a deep dive into the world and structures of single motherhood.

It is our goal to provide resources, support, information, and whatever is essential to ensure a single parenting lifestyle has the potential to prosper, not struggle, nor simply exist.

Women become or are defined as Single Mothers due to divorce, widowed, relationship break-up, teenage/unplanned pregnancy, the father does not have any interest in parenting, military mothers, or any mother raising a child primarily on their own.  This podcast will heighten the awareness of many things’ single mothers deal with within their daily lives. Therefore, we ask ourselves what transpires in our everyday life?  It is working, crafting a career, raising children, teaching children, making money, saving money, dating again, dealing with the father, and hopefully, you have the option of being able to co-parent.

There is a myriad of life issues that we discuss under the umbrella of the above-mentioned topics.  At the core of single parenthood, you encounter multiple issues and on the top of that list, is the ability to love despite all challenges and setbacks. Therefore, we should ask ourselves what are we teaching our children when it comes to love?

Simply put most single mothers have one goal – to be the very best so our children can thrive. Our children are our main priority; but, not our only priority. We still care about our careers, relationships outside of our children, having a mother’s night off, keeping a roof over our heads, and putting quality food on the table.
